Action Plan: Goal 3

Goal 3. Provide educational and professional development opportunities for agricultural information specialists.

Objectives:

  1. Strengthen biennial USAIN conference planning.
  2. Encourage exchanges and internships.
  3. Co-sponsor programs.
  4. Support the dissemination of professional information.
  5. Develop skills of USAIN members so that they are seen as leaders in the change and improvement of agricultural information (its creation, dissemination and organization).

Objective 1. Strengthen biennial USAIN conference planning.

ACTIONS RESPONSIBILITY TIMELINE
1. Encourage conference program planners to include a general session on the information needs of the agricultural community. Conference Committee Ongoing
2. Explore the appointment of a continuing education comittee to work with the conference planning committee. Executive Council TBD
3. Increase opportunities for participation at conference. Confrence Committee Ongoing

 

Objective 2. Encourage exchanges and internships.

ACTIONS RESPONSIBILITY TIMELINE
1. Appoint a committee to identify opportunities for exchanges between coprporate, university, extension and international agriculture information specialists. Executive Council TBD
2. Promote internships at NAL by announcement to membership. Executive Council As needed

 

Objective 3. Co-sponsor programs.

ACTIONS RESPONSIBILITY TIMELINE
1. Develop a method to support member participation in other agricultural professional conference programs. Executive Council TBD
2. Promote and support participation by USAIN institutions in National Preservation Plan for Agricultural Literature. Executive Council and Preservation Committee. Biennial

 

Objective 4. Support the dissemination of professional information.

ACTIONS RESPONSIBILITY TIMELINE
1. Identify a mechanism to publish the USAIN conference proceedings and disseminate them to all USAIN members as a part of dues paying benefits. Conference Planning Committee Ongoing
2. Continue to develop the USAIN World Wide Web site. Communications Committee with Executive Council Ongoing
3. Contribute professional development opportunities to USAIN web calendar and to NAL calendar. Executive Council and membership Ongoing
4. Explore relationship with Journal of Agricultural and Food Information as "official publishing vehicle." Executive Council June 2002

1. Promote cooperative reference/information delivery methods utilizing "new" technologies, eg. AgNIC. Executive Council Ongoing
